Hurricane Preparedness Tips for Your Business
As we anticipate the arrival of Hurricane Ida, our RiskWise team has prepared some tips to keep you, your business and your team safe. We hope that this information helps to eliminate any risks that may come from this inclement weather!
- Be sure to shut down all processes safely.

- Inspect
- Roof edging strips
- Gutters
- Flashing
- Covering
- Drains
- Sign and stack supports
- Guy wires
- Anchorages
- Check for weak doors, window latches, hardware and panel fastenings.
- Brace unsupported structural members at construction sites.
- Ensure your important records are kept in a safe place, and update important backup records and move them to a location not vulnerable to the same incident.
- Fill above-ground tanks to capacity with product or water to minimize wind damage.
- Be sure to anchor or move any loose outside structures as well as outdoor traveling cranes and bridges in accordance with manufacturers’ instructions. Besides setting rail clamps, secure with wedges and cable anchors.
- Assemble the following supplies and equipment at a central, secure location:
- Emergency Lighting
- Tarpaulins
- Lumber and nails
- Sandbags
- Tape for windows
- Shovels and axes
- Power and manual tools
- Roofing paper
- Caulking compound
- Chain Saws
- Ensure that the emergency crew remaining on the premises has the following:
- Nonperishable food
- Stored drinking water
- Two-way radios
- Lighting
- First aid equipment
- Fill emergency generator and fire pump fuel tanks, and inspect all fire protection equipment to be sure it is in service.
- Clean out drains and catch basins.
